And, you have a vested interest in the continued livelihood of your business after an emergency. Yet, this planning is easy to put off.   Santa Ana and South Coast sits on a literal island together bounded by the 22fwy, the 55, the 405, and the riverbed. One must travel over or under a bridge, most rated 6.9 on the Richter scale. Our island has between 600 and 800,000 people during the day – more during holiday shopping time.. If only a few of those bridges fell in an incident we could all be together for several nights.   The Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce jointly with the South Coast Metro Business Alliance have teamed together to sponsor the joint Business Emergency Response Team Academy class Five. Members of either organization or prior graduates have discounts to the nominal training fee. (Even before the discounts, this substantive course is less than $15/hr.) We recognize that the investment of your business time is much more valuable. We jam every available minute of substantive training into the program.   This important curriculum uses a Homeland Security/FEMA based training program to help understand what an emergency is like from inside the operation. First Responders teach the courses so that one can tangibly understand their approach so that your business can take specific steps to do something to help your employees, while not becoming actually part of the problem. Understanding what not to do is as important as specific actions to take to protect those around you.   This is one-half day per week, six week course which includes an American Heart Association CPR Card, Police Active Shooter/workplace security, psychology of a disaster, Light Search and Rescue, etc. Graduates qualify for a radio subscription program which ties our businesses together as a team when all forms of communications fail.   We have attached a letter from Santa Ana Chief Paul Walters inviting you to an informational meeting on Wednesday 6/6/2012.
